Curral das Freiras

Curral das Freiras is a parish in the district of Câmara de Lobos in the Madeira Islands. The population in 2001 is 1,673, its density is 66.7/km² and the area is 25.07 km². It is located northeast of Câmara de Lobos. The main industry are agriculture. It is connected with a road linking southwest to Câmara de Lobos and north to Santana. The mountains encircle the village in which are partially forested except further north. The tunnel which links to the upper parts of the valley and Madeira's tallest mountain lies to the west. The centre of the parish is to the south. Some residential houses are cut off from the main roads. Vineyards which are in the slopey areas encircles the parish which makes production of the Madeira Wine.
