[edit] Category:Current national leaders

Should be renamed Category:Current heads of government per the description on that page. There should also be a Category:Current heads of state. Those can then be subcategories of this one. --Jiang 00:39, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)

  • Keep as is. There are some countries where the head of government is the president, even though an office of prime minister exists. The distinction is not as clear as it probably should be. --Sesel 00:57, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)
  • Delete and rename. "National leader" is too vague a term for many countries. List of national leaders distiguishes head of state from head of government for countries where they are separate, so this category should, as well. --Azkar 18:52, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)
  • Keep. Maurreen 08:15, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)
  • Keep, limit it to people listed on List of national leaders. -- User:Docu
  • Keep. Division unnecessary and would lead to even more category clutter, as many heads of government are also heads of state. See, for example, George W. Bush, whose article already has 16 categories! Neutralitytalk 17:50, Mar 6, 2005 (UTC)
  • Keep. -Kbdank71 15:12, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Mahmoud Abbas

Pardon me for asking, but exactly what sovereign nation is Abbas the president of? I don't mean that we shouldn't include the leaders of Taiwan, Palestine, and other disputed territories, but merely that we should change the name of the category if we do. savidan(talk) (e@) 04:17, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Swiss non-leaders

How many Swiss politicians who are neither head of stste nor head of government do we need on this page? -- —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 145.246.240.14 (talkcontribs).

The problem is that Switzerland has no single most powerful political figure (see Swiss Federal Council). I suppose we could just list "Swiss Federal Council" here. Failing that, listing the seven Federal Councillors here is also appropriate, as together they constitute the Swiss Head of State and the government. Sandstein 21:28, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
As we generally include articles about specific persons, I'd include the articles of the seven (current) members of the Federal Council (which are also listed on list of state leaders), similarly to other countries where there is more than one "current national leader", e.g. Andorra (both co-princes are included), San Marino (both Captain Regents are currently included).
BTW there was a lengthy discussion about this on Talk:Christoph Blocher, which someone concluded by excluding B. and including only the six other current members of the Swiss Federal Council.
A Swiss "non-leader" that shouldn't be included would be the current Swiss Federal Chancellor. -- User:Docu
No matter which consensus will be reached, the Swiss entries should be presented consistently here. Five of the seven Swiss national councils are listed in this category and two are not (Blocher and Leuthard). Personally, I would prefer including no one or only including the President of the Confederation. Currently this is Moritz Leuenberger; the entry would have to be changed every year.---Sluzzelin 07:16, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
The current solution used to include all seven. As Blocher seems to be a sensitive issue with one editor, we just don't edit that article. Including only the President of the Confederation would be somewhat contradictory with the rest, especially Swiss Federal Council quoted (and mostly written) by Sandstein. -- User:Docu.
I understand and thank you for replying. Once again, Blocher is the 'Extrawurst'. This inconsistency still bothers me but I guess it can wait. ---Sluzzelin 09:11, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
