Cumberland City, Tennessee

Cumberland City is a town in Stewart County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 316 at the 2000 census.
Cumberland City is the site of a TVA power plant along the Cumberland River that provides power to much of the area, including the cities of Clarksville in Montgomery County and Dickson in Dickson County.
The power plant's towers (some of the tallest structures in the state) can be seen for at least 30 miles away.

Cumberland City is located at GR1.
(36.390469, -87.640801)According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 13.7 km² (5.3 mi²). 12.5 km² (4.8 mi²) of it is land and 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²) of it (8.90%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there are 316 people, 139 households, and 89 families residing in the town. The population density is 25.4/km² (65.6/mi²). There are 178 housing units at an average density of 14.3/km² (37.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 87.34% White, 7.91% African American, 0.63% Asian, 2.22% from other races, and 1.90% from two or more races. 2.22% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 139 households out of which 24.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.2% are married couples living together, 14.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% are non-families. 29.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.27 and the average family size is 2.80.
In the town the population is spread out with 22.5% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 21.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 91.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.5 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $21,750, and the median income for a family is $26,250. Males have a median income of $31,875 versus $17,500 for females. The per capita income for the town is $14,363. 27.3% of the population and 22.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 37.9% of those under the age of 18 and 23.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
