[edit] Focusing on unmaintained articles
Regarding an effort to "Standardise formats within current featured articles on similar topics working with relevant WikiProjects": it's a good idea, but should be done carefully so as not to provoke unnecessary conflict with the regular maintainers of featured articles—and potentially reduce the quality of the articles involved—by wholesale rearrangement of material (particularly in cases where the recommended formats are meant to be highly flexible). I think a focus on articles that aren't being actively maintained would be the most productive way of going about this. Kirill Lokshin 14:13, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
- Absolutely. An article with someone carefully watching over its shoulder is better off than many, many of our articles. Johnleemk | Talk 18:08, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] On translating other Featured Articles...
I MIGHT somewhat be able to help with any from the Spanish Wikipedia. I'd like to note that I am by no means fluent in the language yet, but I have some good contacts with people who ARE fluent, so it should balance out.Runa27 05:18, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hey, wow! You're even a "near-native speaker" in it! This could work!
- Now, in the project proposal, you add, as a maybe at least:
-
- Translating featured articles on other-language Wikipedias into English and helping those articles to reach featured standard.
- I agree that this is an excellent offshoot goal for the project, and, should the project be able to include this goal, would like to suggest (from a brief glance through the Spanish Wikipedia's version of the Featured Articles page) we perhaps start with: Emperador romano from the Spanish Wikipedia. It recently achieved Artículo Destacado (Featured Article) status, and its English counterpart, Roman Emperor, was once nominated (albeit a couple of years ago) for Featured Article status, indicating that perhaps by including some of the information of the Spanish version and some tweaks, perhaps it might become a good candidate for it again; especially since it was mostly the format that was the reason for it not becoming a Featured Article (granted, the content could have gone to pot by now as well, but that might indicate an even better need for synthesis between the two versions, right?). I can't really do much for it at the moment, as I need to go to bed soon, but it's a thought. Runa27 05:55, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

- Certainly possible. I was hoping for translations and such as something to do once (if?) we finish with our current English featured articles, but we could dive right in. Right now I;d like to wait and see if there's more interest in the WikiProject. I have a link on my userpage and one at Wikipedia talk:Featured articles, so hopefully more people will show up. —CuiviénenT|C, Monday, 22 May 2006 @ 22:38 UTC
