[edit] Laverton, Victoria
The picture you have removed from "Laverton, Victoria" page, featuring a vehicle prevalent in the Laverton area holds a marked similarity to the "Toorak Tractor" image featured on the "Toorak, Victoria" page which you have contributed to in the past. I cannot see why a "Toorak Tractor" image should be allowed to remain while a picture of a vehicle which is iconic of the Laverton area must be removed. Furthermore, I question your reasoning as to why you have cited your edit of this page as a removal of vandalism.

[edit] Bruthen, Victoria
I am sorry about that. I was unfamiliar with that policy and the rules that go with it. That'll teach me to not read things. My bad. tv316 05:08, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Horse racing distances
I have noticed that you have inserted a comma into the race distance in a couple of horse racing articles, which I have reverted. The general convention in Australian racing media and publications is not to insert the comma when giving the distance of a race. The Manuel of Style states: Very large numbers may be divided up by commas every three places. Regards - Cuddy Wifter 05:23, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
- Wikipedia isn't a racing publication. In my opinion it should have internal consistency, but I'm not interested in racing so I probably won't visit the page again. ReeseM 23:59, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Is Prosper Trebeck 'from Victoria'?
Hi Cuddy. I've started a discussion on this here...
Category_talk:People_from_Victoria
I just wasn't certain if this category applies or if we should apply other categories for NSW and West Bengal.
Thought you might have an opinion.
Factoid Killer 20:47, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
- I came across the article in a google search for uncategorised "Victoria, Australia" articles. On the basis of the information in the article I thought Category:People from Victoria was one appropriate category. Can you suggest other categories which are more appropriate? Does Wikipedia have any guidelines on "People from or of place" which would apply in this case? - Cuddy Wifter 03:42, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Template:MelbSuburbBox2/Water
That looks right, thanks. Just to note, I think I've found something in the template system new that might make the output HTML more semantically correct, so I'm going to try that now. --Evan C (Talk) 09:04, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Australian Expatriate cats
Hello Cuddy Wifter. Regarding your recent Aus expat cat placements, I have reverted some of them because "expatriate" is generally taken to mean "residing in a foreign country". I believe it is accurate to say that when a person returns to live in their home country they are no longer considered an expatriate. I also do not believe people who have died are considered expatriates any longer. Cheers. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 08:37, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. The definition above was straight from the dictionary, but this is Wikipedia's: "An expatriate (in abbreviated form expat) is someone temporarily or permanently residing in a country and culture other than that of their upbringing and/or legal residence." I honestly do not see how people who have returned home or have died fit within that. Most notable Australians have lived overseas at one point. And so I think it is very confusing and misleading to label every Australian who has at one time in their life lived overseas as an expat. Further, I don't see the relevance of the British cats. Two mistakes dont make a right. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 03:04, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- I make the distinction based on what the word ACTUALLY means and what most people understand it to mean. I make a further distinction based on the fact that Australians are famous for spending time living overseas and to include all of them would render the category meaningless, bogged down and entirely unruly. I do not make a distinction between former and current footballers because a. there are a hell of a lot less of them and b. it is a career.
- I merely came here to pay you the courtesy of informing you why I had reverted some of your edits. I have no interest in arguing with you. You can do whatever you want but I will remove people who are incorrectly categorised. Thankyou. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 05:12, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] May 25 2006: Greece vs Australia friendly
- Do you suppose Wikipedians would buy the tickets and go?
- It would be a great social activity for us, and we would try to get press accreditation as well.

[edit] Racing
I saw your note on my user page. Thanks. I guess this is about "Category: Racehoreses bred in the United States". This is a reasonably important category. Someone suggested it be merged with "Category: American racehorses". I guess this OK too. I will keep an eye on it to see that they don't come up with an unworkable solution. Wallie 08:22, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
i have commented as well. I think that it would be good to go much further than this and have some discussion on horseracing in general. Even look at starting a portal. I think all the information could be much better presented. dark horse 05:01, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
further to that i think that it would be a good idea to support a wikiproject on thoroughbred horseracing as suggested by Galopin. considering the size and limited contributors possibly seperate projects for Europe, US and AUS. These could then be merged once more complete. There is Wikipedia:WikiProject_Thoroughbred_racing which has had next to nothing done to it and seems USA focused. You may have seen me working through the G1 winners in australia (slowly) my idea is to complete the winners of all blacktype races and then complete profiles for all hall of fame horses (firstly) in the style of the Tulloch article. Added to this i want to develop a standard for summaries, race records etc. i quite like the idea of info boxes like they have for football (soccer) players. A summary including info on basic breeding, colour, year foaled, owner, trainer, race record, prizemoney, major wins, awards, sire stats and a photo would look good. Let me know what you think (dark horse 04:11, 4 July 2006 (UTC))
got your message about the CAPS - an oversight by myself. will work towards fixing these. am working on a few recruits with great australian racing knowledge, hopefully to get this whole project firing. (dark horse 05:53, 6 July 2006 (UTC))
[edit] Melbourne Meetup
Hi Just looking over the Melbourne Meetup pages etc, and I was just wondering, if u get many Under 18's?
Thanks! --Deon555|talk 09:40, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
You don't seem to be aware of it but Ted Wilkes has been banned from editing Wikipedia. He was banned in mid March for 1 year by the Arbitration Committee. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 00:40, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thoroughbred racing
G'day. You are right, if Wikipedia is to have articles on the subject of horseracing around the world, then there needs to be some consistency and co-ordination. I have no special interest, I started the Harry Wragg article under "Harry". My comment about "race-ist" was supposed to be facetiuos. Guy 09:54, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
Organizing Thoroughbred racing into a Wikipedia project is a great idea. Regretfully, for now I am tied up with other duties but ASAP will get back to Wikipedia and would then be glad to help out in any way possible. Handicapper
I will try to help out with the Thoroughbred racing project but can't personally claim to be a real expert. My dad trains racehorses for a living (I have resisted writing an article about him; I don't think he is particularly well known) but he has a wealth of knowledge and if I could only persuade him to help out I'm sure he would be useful. --Wikipediatastic 15:30, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Xcellent
The guy who put this up for deletion is a complete... can't think of the word, yes ... balloon. By the way I used to work in South Yarra at the ANZ data centre. Is it still there? Wallie 20:17, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- The deletion nom was withdrawn, and the Afd closed off by User:Kimchi.sg. Cheers. Moriori 23:57, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thoroughbred horse Infobox template
Galopin has generously volunteered to help the Wikipedia:WikiProject Thoroughbred racing create an Infobox and has done a great job. Take a look at his talk page (User talk:Galopin#Template tests) for the two choices for the bottom box and those horses where I set up their box today using sample 1. [edit] Stonnington
A climate is a pattern of weather distinct to a particular region. A suburban municipality doesn't have a climate distinct from the rest of the city of which it is a part. The table I deleted gave figures for Melbourne as a whole, not for Stonnington. Adam 07:01, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Nevertheless they are not figures for Stonnington, and of course no such figures exist. It is absurd to discuss the "climate" of a small area of suburbia as though it was a climatic region distinct from the city as a whole. Adam 07:17, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

It appears the same editor is using multiple ip addresses to edit the article and present their point of view. If it persists I'll enable semi-protection. I've fired them a warning on inserting POV edits for now. -- Longhair\talk 02:02, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
I've sent the anonymous user another warning, with mention of a block if edits of this type continue to occur. I'm also watchlisting the article. I'm currently busy in real life at the moment, but feel free to continue posting to my talk page if these edits continue. I'm still checking into Wikipedia from time to time and am happy to assist where I can as time permits. -- Longhair\talk 01:56, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
