Despite what is written below the Cuala Press was not established until 1908, when it broke away from the Dun Emer Industries, which was founded in 1904 by Evelyn Gleeson, who brought Susan Mary ("Lily") Yeats and her younger sister Elizabeth Corbet ("Lollie") Yeats aboard as minor partners. Lily ran the Embroidery department, Lollie the printing. The two groups parted company in 1908, partly because of finances but largely because of Lollie's difficult personality. Lily and Lollie then established the Cuala Industries for printing and embroidery. William Butler Yeats agreed to serve as editor and adviser for the press and to provide works for publication but never held office in either Dun Emer or Cuala.
