My name is Chad Stephen Wrye. For more up-to-date information about me, you can check out my MySpace profile or read my Xanga blog.
[edit] Biography
I was born in Macon, Georgia, on November 29, 1978. I grew up there and attended Gilead Christian Academy from kindergarten through 12th grade. After graduating on May 31, 1996, I went to Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee, beginning on August 27, 1996. I graduated on May 6, 2000, with a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree and a triple major in Business Administration, Accounting, and Computer Information Systems. I spent just over three years working as a computer programmer at Compco, a small telecommunications company in Brentwood, Tennessee, before deciding to go back for a Master's degree on August 18, 2003. I attended Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and I received a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Industrial/Organizational Psychology on August 14, 2005. Just before graduating, I started a job as a data analyst for the consulting services division of QHR, a health care management company whose consulting branch is located in Brentwood. I now live in Antioch, Tennessee, a small town that is part of the Nashville-Davidson County metropolitan area. I am currently dating a wonderful girl named Ann.
[edit] Beliefs
I am a believer in Christianity and have been all my life. I grew up in an independent fundamental Baptist church, but I am now a member of the Church of the Nazarene. God is the most important person in my life, and I strive to live out what it means to be a Christian. My theological views are now based on Wesleyanism and Arminianism. However, I enjoy learning about various types of Christian theology and about all types of world religions. I have a deep appreciation for church history and liturgy, and although I was never a member of the Episcopal Church, I did attend one for a while.
Politics is not very important to me and I am not a member of any political party, but I would probably describe my political philosophy as a moderate libertarian. On the Nolan chart, I would be close to the middle but slightly in the libertarian quadrant. However, I respect anyone who makes an honest attempt to help others, even if I disagree with their philosophy.
[edit] Interests
My main hobby is swing dancing, which I do quite often. My primary interest is Lindy Hop, although I also do quite a bit of Balboa, East Coast Swing, Blues, Charleston, and Collegiate Shag. I received most of my training from Music City Motion, although I have taken classes from many well-known instructors, including Frankie Manning and Bill Borgida. I am familiar with several other types of dances including some ballroom dancing, but I do not do them nearly as often.
Video games used to be another major interest of mine, although that has lessened due to a lack of time. My preferred types of games are role-playing games, adventure games, and strategy games, although I tend to enjoy games in all categories. My favorite game franchises are Final Fantasy, Myst, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and all of the Blizzard Entertainment games. I am also fond of The Sims and SimCity. For the most part, I only play PC games now.
[edit] Skills
One of my undergraduate majors was Computer Information Systems, and I subsequently spent three years as a programmer. Most of my experience involves Visual Basic, VBScript, and SQL, but I have also done some work in COBOL, Visual C++, and HTML. I have worked extensively with both Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases, and I am familiar with many software tools, including Crystal Reports, Data Integrator, ACL, and all of Microsoft Office.
Although I also majored in Accounting, I have very little actual experience in it. However, it did provide me with quite a bit of general business knowledge and language.
My Master's degree had a strong focus on the areas of human resources, organization development, and training. I am particularly familiar with many issues related to personnel selection, especially through psychometrics. My thesis involved using a cluster analysis of a personality test to develop personality profiles that might predict job performance.
In graduate school, I excelled in statistics, and I was chosen to teach a graduate-level statistics lab for my graduate assistantship. I am familiar with many statistical concepts, and I have also used SPSS and SAS.
I have been swing dancing for quite a few years, and I believe that I have become quite good at it. I have undergone training to be a teacher, and I have taught in a few unprofessional settings. I do not think that I will ever be at the level to dance competitively, but I do have a desire to teach and to participate in performances. I am currently part of a local dance group called Swing Dance Nashville and its corresponding performance group Nashville Swing Dance Revolution.
Although I enjoy video games, I would hardly consider myself a hardcore gamer. I am very poor at most competitive games, including first-person shooters and real-time strategy games. Most of the games I play are single-player.
[edit] Wikipedia role
I joined Wikipedia on June 6, 2005, although I had been reading it for months before then. I will most likely be involved in editing articles related to the material listed above. I think about things in a highly organized manner and tend to be pretty good in making information flow logically. I am very focused on making things consistent and try to apply the same formatting across articles. In addition, I am quite detailed when it comes to grammar and formatting, so I will also be correcting any such errors that I see.
Previously, I was working on reorganizing the list of colleges and universities in the United States. This proved to be a difficult task, so I have taken some time off of it. However, I do hope to return to it eventually. My goal is to reorganize the state listings to look like the list for Tennessee. I am also slightly involved in user categorization, the Dance Wikiproject, the Church of the Nazarene WikiProject, and the Psychology Wikiproject.
