Crystal Peak (science fiction)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article refers to the fictional facility in Terminator 3.

Crystal Peak is a large subterranean fallout shelter apparently built by the U.S. Government as a last resort for government and military VIPs. It is deep underground and outfitted with an extensive computer bay (although the computers are around 30 years old and no longer function), emergency TV broadcast center, which is fitted with a backdrop and podium for the President of the USA and food depot. There is also a radio system in place, used by Connor to communicate with Montana Civil Defense in the last moments of the film.

It is this place where the T-850 sent John Connor and Kate Brewster at the end of Terminator 3, to safely endure the onset of Judgment Day. Up until entering Crystal Peak, Connor is expecting to find a modern computer-control center and facilities that can be used to shut down SkyNet. Connor finally realizes that SkyNet is software and there was never a control-center or system core to shut down. As John's final narration indicates:

"I should have realized our destiny was never to stop Judgment Day. It was merely to survive it."
