Crossroads Tavern

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Crossroads Tavern was an AOL-based chat room representing a fictitious tavern in the D&D cosmology designed to allow America Online internet gamers to roleplay using characters from different campaign settings in the same environment. The tavern supposedly occupies a place outside of space and time that characters from all universes and time periods can access.

The Crossroads Tavern was moved from America Online's chat system to a Java-based webpage by Wizards of the Coast when they bought out TSR. Since the move, it was given its own campaign setting but was subsequently deleted.

Soon, though, the Java "Ichat" system was replaced by a newer chat system by Wizards. This proved to be popular with the RPG-gaming chat rooms, but not with the Roleplaying rooms. To remedy this, the Crossroads Tavern was moved to Unlikely-Heroes, where it stayed for a few months before moving again to its current home, along with other campaign settings, at Enworld.

The Crossroads Tavern is also a nightclub in Maryland.
