Talk:Creative Zen
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There's a new 20 gig Creative Zen, using the similar build of the Zen Micro... not too many details out though.--Madchester 20:09, 2005 Mar 25 (UTC)
There aer so many new players coming out. Including the Zen Sleek, rumored to look like the iPod Mini. Just google it. Also, A new PMC has been launhed. It is called the Zen Vision.
[edit] Redirects
I went ahead and built redirects for all the different creative zen products to this page, to avoid situations like the zen micro where it was the only product with its own page. Please continue this practice if you add a new product to this page.
[edit] Cleanup Required
Right now all of the products are listed in chronological order. It would be more useful and more relevent to have the current products listed first, followed by a category for older products. The page for the Sandisk Sansa features this layout and it is much more user-friendly. 24.220.84.2 18:32, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] MicroPhoto Charge issue
I have the Zen MicroPhoto, and I do not have problems charging it on a computer that does not have it's software installed (or even WMP10) and it does charge from the wall wart charger that came with my Zen Micro (origional)
My Zen MicroPhoto Firmware version is 1.11.01 at the time of this post
A little more I would like to see is a source that shows that the newer Micro firmware causes issues, otherwise I think that final sentence is unnecessary/POV.
[edit] Zen Micro Headphone Jack Issue
"It has been reported by some that the headphone jack can partly break away from the host circuit (on the 5 GB model) board, which causes loss in one or both channels."
I can confirm that the symptoms described here are extremely common, as myself and the only other local Zen Micro user I know have experienced this.

- All that you said is true. My friends Zen Micro's headphone jack is a bit messed up. You need to push it in a direction to bring back the sound. Could it possibly be cheap materials Creative use? --Snkcube 21:47, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

- Used — NRen2k5 18:39, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- to my understanding, the Micro and the Xtra (no idea on other models, my dad has a 4 year old Zen USB2.0 that never broke) use a poor quality of sodder. not sure if the issue was resolved either Thesidewinder 21:28, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

- Yes, the issue has been resolved. — NRen2k5 18:39, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
I am currently on my third Zen Micro player, should I sell this newly issued one from creative and get an ipod or stick with it and possibly wear out my warranty in hopes of this player being the right one?
I have had no issue with my current MicroPhoto
I added a link to a site illustrating how to fix the Micro's headphone jack issue; it worked great for me. --Sean 03:56, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Vandalism
Who vandalised this page? I removed it, it was under the Zen xtra section, the problem complained about could be cleaned up to be NPOV and put with the other criticisms Thesidewinder 16:25, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
Found the creator, it was written by 71.242.35.44
[edit] Zen Vision
I have a Zen Vision. It does not have the ability to password protect or hide directories. I'm removing that sentence. 212.79.87.141 13:11, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
I think the whole Zen Vision section needs a cleanup
The password protect sentence is back. This feature does not exist! I'm removing it. Nick 06:36, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
Zen Vision:M has password protection. Keri 22 july '06
It's in the manual. Sorry I do not have it with me at the moment for a direct quote. --Antsh 17:48, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Zen Nano
Does the Zen Nano just look like a USB disk to the computer, or does it require the Creative drivers, gnomad2, etc. to work like the Zen NX?
If it is a Plays for sure device, it will show up instantly if you have WMP 10 or higher Also the price of the Zen Vision m has lowered very markably; I got mine for onll 199.86. Actually, for me it is just a FAT32 drive, even under Linux for me.
-
- actually, actually, its just a fat16 drive. you can use wmp though, if you wish (why would you wish?) --andrew 18:01, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] end of life product?
what does it mean when it says " (This model is an end of life product) " next to the zen touch? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.157.24.28 (talk • contribs) 13:22, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
- End-of-life has all the info you want.—♦♦ SʘʘTHING(Я) 17:48, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
then what is the difference between "end of life" and "product is no longer in production? AFAIK EOL means they arent selling, marketing, making it anymore etc, does it just mean there keeping a few dozen in storage just in case someone calls in a warantee?
[edit] Zen Vision M Build Quality/ freezing problems
I have a Creative Zen Vision M and I must not that there are no build quality problems. I also frequent a Zen forum, and have noticed no complaints about build quality. As for freezing, the player only freezes when trying to play a corrupt file.
I'm removing the line "It has also been noted that this product suffers from build quality problems and random freezing."
[edit] Zen Vision M 60 gigs
I have the 30 gig anyone know where they sell the 60 gigs. -= virus =- 0.o 13:57, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Zen Vision M recording
Is it me or the Zen's Battery drans really fast when recording and listening to the recording? -= virus =- 0.o 16:03, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
It drains really fast because the file is at a really high bitrate and is uncompressed. thesamc
[edit] Zen V/Zen V Plus - IMPORTANT NOTE FOR BUYERS -
Many people look in Wikipedia before they buy a product. So we could maybe add that the software for the Zen V and Zen V Plus will work in Windows XP only. Yes I have 2000 and I was NOT able to install the software on the CD. -andy 80.129.94.142 19:51, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- I think most people are able to read the system requirements on the box before they make a purchase. It clearly says "Windows XP" and nothing else. Even then, you don't need the software that comes with it. In fact, I have a Mac, and my V works just splendidly, albeit through third-party program, but, still, there are alternatives. I'm also pretty sure that you could simply mount it as a removable disk and just drag your songs to the "Music" folder. VelvetKevorkian 04:43, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Zen Vision M and W in competition with iPod video
I cannot afford to get either, but when I was close to getting a high end DAP I noticed that wherever Apple is, Creative is. I know they obviously are in competition, but I believe their M and W Zen visions are in direct competition. The Creative model actually has a longer battery life for video when I was looking at it.--Ben414 14:05, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
