Creeveroe
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The townland of Creeveroe lies approximately three and a half miles West of the City of Armagh, in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. The townland derives its name from Red Branch was the name of two of the three royal houses of the king of Ulster, Conchobar mac Nessa, at his capital Emain Macha (Navan Fort, near Armagh), later used as a name of an order of warriors, the Red Branch Knights. The name is thought by some to derive from the practice of cutting off their enemy's heads and displaying them on the branches of trees. The name red branch was later applied to the Red Branch Knights, described by historians an Irish equivalent to the English Knights of the Round Table. Today the townland is inhabited by a wide range of people, significanly farmers, as the townland is rich in greenfields. The townland neighbours the townland of Ballyrea, which is famous for Ballyrea Orange Hall, and the highly successful and well known flute band, Ballyrea Boyne Defenders.
