Creation/August/Rev-ola Records

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Creation Records was a London, United Kingdom based independent record label, founded by Alan McGee in 1984. From the early 1990s on, however, its 'independent' status was severely compromised, since financial difficulties forced it into partnership with Sony Music Entertainment. The label stopped in 1999.

During its existence it had on its books some of the most important acts in British indie music, including the Jesus & Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Swervedriver, Slowdive, The House Of Love, Teenage Fanclub, Primal Scream, Oasis, Super Furry Animals, The Telescopes, The Boo Radleys and 18 Wheeler. It also launched subsidiary Rev-ola Records for cult reissues.

Since the dissolution of Creation Records in 1999 McGee has been running the Poptones label, which has seen a return to the staunchly independent roots of Creation. Most notably, Poptones launched the career of The Hives in the UK.
