A central aspect of Crankworx is a village-wide celebration of mountain biking. Many events happen throughout the week including demonstrations of bicycle tricks, music, and other entertainment. The 2006 festival included performances from the band De La Soul. There is also a collection of manufacturer's booths, and the festival serves as a cycling industry gathering. The festival has attracted major sponsors including Kokanee beer, Nissan Motors, Jim Beam, and the Kona Bicycle Company.

Crankworx features Mountain biking competitions in multiple disciplines. An underlying aspect of these competitions is that some are variants of the normal mountain bike competitions. For example, in addition to the classic 4-5 minute downhill race, there is a 15 minute Enduro Downhill, a Super D race, and an Air Downhill race.

The competitions are:

  • Biker X - Four racers side-by-side
  • Enduro Downhill - A 15 minute run down Garbonzo to the base
  • Air Downhill - Downhill including over 100 air elements
  • Slopestyle - Style-point event concluding with a jump over the "Gap-O-Tron"
  • Jump Jam - BMX-style jumping on Mountain Bikes
  • Super D - Downhill plus climbing
  • Canada Cup Cross-Country - A classic cross-country race
  • Canadian National Downhill - A classic downhill race
  • Trialsworx - Trials over obstacles and water
