Craig Young

Craig Young (born in Wollongong, New South Wales) was an Australian rugby league player for the St. George Dragons in the Australian New South Wales Rugby League premiership competition. His position of choice was at prop-forward.
Young originally had a strong grounding in the sport of soccer as a youngster and many believed he would subsequently follow in his father's footsteps and turn professional at the sport (his father represented Australia). At the age of 16 he was playing for Bellami in the Illawarra soccer competition while he was also representing Corrimal in rugby league. Rugby League eventually won the battle between the two sports and Young was selected to tour Great Britain as an Australian schoolboy in 1972. The following tour shot Young and several other of the tours players into semi-stardom after they remained undefeated throughout the tour.
Following the successful schoolboys tour Young's signature was chased after by several clubs but the St. George Dragons won out and eventually secured his services. In his debut season coach and rugby league legend Harry Bath claimed Young was destined for a great future and in his first year at the club Young was instrumental in helping the Dragons take out the premiership title.
In 1979 Young was awarded the captaincy of the Dragons side and captained the side to yet another title, he then continued to stoically lead his club side for close to another decade.
After his retirement Young took up a coaching role at the Dragons but his stay only turned out to be brief and he was replaced by Brian Smith at the beginning of the 1991 season.
