Craig "Wheels" Whelihan (Born April 15, 1971) in San Jose, California, is a Arena Football League quarterback with the San Jose Sabercats. While attending Santa Teresa High School (1985-1989), Craig lettered in football, baseball and basketball. He attended the University of Pacific.
[edit] NFL career
Whelihan's professional career began when San Diego Chargers, of the National Football League, drafted Whelihan in the sixth round of the 1995 draft out of the University of the Pacific. He would see his first playing time in 1997 when the two quarterbacks ahead of him on the depth chart (Stan Humphries and Jim Everett) went down with injuries. During his only two years with the Chargers, the 1997 and 1998 seasons, he would complete a total of 267 pass attempts out of 557 for 3,160 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions. Unable to make a good enough impression in the time given, he would lose his job when the Chargers signed veteran All-Pro quarterback Jim Harbaugh.

[edit] XFL
Whelihan's XFL career lasted but a year, as the league itself folded after one season. He spent that year with both the Memphis Maniax and Chicago Enforcers.
[edit] Arena Football League Career
With his NFL career at a stalemate, and the XFL defunct, Whelihan took his talents to the Arena Football League. Since 2001, Whelihan has played for three different AFL teams: the Orlando Predators (2001-2002, 2004), the Indiana Firebirds (2003), and Las Vegas Gladiators (2005-present).
