Craftsbury Academy is currently the smallest public school in Vermont, USA, with a population in 5th through 12th grade of 140. It is also one of the longest operating schools in the state. It is in northern Vermont, nestled in the rolling foot hills of the Green Mountians. It's current principal is Chris Young, who holds a degree from the illustrious Boston College. The staff are a varied assortment of old school teachers and new experimental educators. The school is currently facing a massive budget deficit. The school population is slowly declining along with the town's population. The school is trying to revitalize with new programs and a new building project slated to cost almost 13 million dollars.The size of this small school and its long standing tradition of providing solid educations have made this school one of the finest public education institutions in northern Vermont. The school has operated continuously for almost 185 years.
