From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cowplain Community School is a comprehensive school in Cowplain, located in the south of England. It is a school with approximately 1060 students and around 60 staff, plus around 35 other staff including caterers, caretakers etc.
It was founded in 1930 and was the only school for children in villages in the area, including Denmead, Hambledon, Purbrook & Petersfield. It was originally a mixed-school, but later on was changed to be a Boys school. Girls were sent to the Crookhorn School. At the break of World War II, Cowplain school was in full swing.
Later, the school was maded a boys and girls school again, although they were split. Now, they are a mixed school with students of mixed abiltity.
Cowplain school was awarded Business & Enterprise college status in the school year of 2005/05.
[edit] Buildings
Cowplain School originally consisted of one building (from what is now known as from English and ICT). As the years went by and more students came to the school, the school was extended. Eventually, the main building (as it is known now) is what it is today. The central building was built along with South Wing. The newest building is now the West Wing, although this will soon be wrong as the business centre nears completion (school year 2006/07).
In the seventies, the south wing was devastated by a fire, engulfing what was then the garage (for mechanics), science & home economics. It was rebuilt. It was recently refurbished (school years 2001/02 and 2002/03).
