Count Armand is a fictional character from the movie The Legend of Zorro. He was played by actor Rufus Sewell. Count Armand was a calm man with a very fine attitude towards most. He cared deeply for his ex-lover Elena De La Vega, and for his scheme to destroy the United States of America. A knight with excellent sword-fighting skills, Armand proved to be a worthy advisary for Zorro.

Armand was a wealthy count who emigrated to California from France in 1850. He set himself up as a wine-maker and invited all kinds of guests over to his chateau for parties. During one of these parties, he had a special escort for the evening, who was none other than Elena De La Vega. Elena had recently divorced Alejandro, the masked avenger Zorro, and was living a life of freedom with her son Joaquin. It was there that the Count and Alejandro were introduced. Besides being a gentleman, Count Armand was also a member of an evil brotherhood known as "Orbis Unim," which is Latin for "One World." The brotherhood existed in medieval times, and were dedicated to keeping peace in Europe, secretly. Their forefathers predicted that a land in the west would rise up to threaten the serpent of "Orbis Unim", and the world would be in jeopardy. So for many years they planned a way to destroy this land before it got too powerful. And that land in the west happened to be United States of America.

Armand contacted his brothers over in Europe informing them that he was on the verge of creating a new type of weapon, one that could destroy America. This of course was right before the American Civil War, so the future of the country was at stake. And the Californians were about to become Americans. Zorro and Elena found Armand and the rest of "Orbis Unim" meeting in secret one night, discussing their plans. Armand told them that he had discovered a way to created vast amounts of Nitroglycerin, a relatively new type of explosive. And by distributing the nitro to the Confederate army, the entire country would be torn apart, and all they would have to do was watch. It was decided by all but one(who was killed when he disapproved) that Armand's plan would be carried out to its natural conclusion.

Armand's scheme was foiled when Mr.McGivens failed to kill Zorro as he was ordered. Zorro then pursued Armand's train carring over thirty bottles of Nitroglycerin. In the events that followed, Zorro and Armand had a fierce sword fight that lead from one of the cabin cars, to the front of the steam engine. Just when Armand was about to win, Elena appeared and she and her husband got the upper hand. Zorro then tied Armand's neckerchief to the engine, and he and Elena escaped from the train. In the end Armand's train crashed into a pair of broken buffers, taking Armand with it. And all of the Nitro was destroyed.
