Council of Canadian Academies

The Council of Canadian Academies (previously known as the Canadian Academies of Science) is an umbrella organization drawing upon the Royal Society of Canada, the Canadian Academy of Engineering and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
It is an arms-length organization; it is not part of the Federal Government.
In a press release, its mandate was stated as [1]
1. to provide a source of credible, independent, expert assessment of the science underlying pressing issues and matters of public interest; and
2. to provide a recognized, unified voice for Canadians on behalf of the sciences, particularly in international inter-academy fora.
The first President of the Council of Canadian Academies is Dr. Peter Nicholson. His appointment was announced February 8, 2006.

A primary function of the CCA is to produce reports at the request of the government.
The State of Science & Technology in Canada [1] is their first report, released September 12, 2006.
