Cotton Green
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cotton Green is the name of a suburb of Mumbai. It is also the name of a railway station on the Mumbai suburban railway. It lies along the Harbour Line which is a part of the famous Central Railway which was in the bygone days called "The Great Indian Peninsular Railway".
The station is probably named Cotton Green since barely a few metres from railway station, facing east is a huge beautiful Gothic building of "Cotton Exchange". This was built in the year 1844 and used for trading in Cotton till early 20th century. (Thanks to the American Civil war, which stopped the trade of American slave-trader cotton). The building has a minty green colour, and is, sadly, being demolished.
When your town-bound (south-bound) train leaves Cotton Green, don't miss the cotton tree just outside the south side of the station !
