[edit] Image Tagging Image:Biocrawler.Cornell Law School 2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Biocrawler.Cornell Law School 2.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jkelly 18:20, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Andrew Dickson White statue and Goldwin Smith Hall.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Andrew Dickson White statue and Goldwin Smith Hall.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jkelly 18:20, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cornell images

The email stating that the images have been licensed under a free, reusable license needs to be sent to permission AT wikimedia.org. The photogrpaher needs to understand that they are licensing them to be used commercially, and we need to be able to verify that. Jkelly 21:41, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

I don't understand what the link you left is supposed to demonstrate. There is no information there about its authorship or copyright status, although I now understand that Biocrawler.com is a wiki. Jkelly 22:22, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
How about this link [[1]]. Or this text: All contributions to Biocrawler are released under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). This specifically ensures that Biocrawler will remain freely distributable in perpetuity. Please do not submit any content that is copyrighted without permission of the copyright holder. (See Copyrights for more information). Does that help.--Cornell010 22:25, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, now I understand what you're getting at. Someone, presumably the photographer, uploaded that image to Biocrawler, and all of Biocrawler's content is supposed to be GFDL. Would you mind spelling all of that out on the Image Description Page so that it is crystal-clear to everybody? Thanks. Jkelly 22:30, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
Yea, I will do that :).--Cornell010 22:34, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Okay, with the Alex Sergeev images, things are a little more complicated. It seems that he was giving permission for Wikipedia to use his photography. We need a license that allows commercial and derivative use, however. He may not have been aware that he needed to agree to that. Ask him to send an email to permissions AT wikimedia.org (if he posts his images at a website, he could just include the license there, as well). You can find examples at Wikipedia:Boilerplate requests for permission. Jkelly 01:11, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Once you have the ticket number, add {{Confirmation}} and the ticket number to the image description page, and you're finally done. Don't forget to remove the deletion template! Jkelly 17:50, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cornell

I've left my comments at Wikipedia:Peer review/Cornell University as requested, and they've been substantially ignored. Why do you keep asking me to review it again if you haven't read my previous review comments? - Taxman Talk 20:54, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, actually we move in steps and like guidance to make sure we are moving in the right direction--Cornell010 22:57, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tips

  1. When you respond to a discussion, do it on the discussion page, not the person's talk page. So post on the peer review instead of Taxman's user talk.
  2. Sign your comments with four tildes ~~~~ so it links to your profile.

One last thing--don't justify something when the vote is already Support. Take it as constructive criticism, but don't argue or give him reason to change his mind. -mercuryboardtalk 00:14, 23 June 2006 (UTC) (UTC)
