Talk:Corregidor

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I changed the heading, "The Title" to "The Island's Name." I don't think the tone of this part of the article is quite right (maybe too speculative.) However the information about the Spanish translation of the Island's name is useful. AMB 21:58, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

I changed "reverence to the US and Filipino soldiers that died there" to "reverence to soldiers that died there", as I'm certain that the Japanese soldiers who doubtless died there are not any less worthy of reverence. If you feel they are not, please change it back and explain why this is so. User:Druid Squid

[edit] facts need sourcing

In this paragraph:

The island, which sheltered Fort Mills, was a prized piece of real estate. Its defense installations had cost the U.S. Government more than 150 million dollars. This amount did not include the expenditure for fortifying the neighboring islands of Caballo, Carabao, and El Fraile, on which were established Forts Hughes, Frank, and Drum, respectively. Corregidor in 1941 was not any better than when she was in the middle of the twenties.

I have removed the last sentence (reason should be obvious). But I also feel strongly compelled to remove the first sentence unless someone can provide information about to whom, specifically, the island was considered "prized" real estate. Also needs sourcing is the information in the second sentence about the money spent on defense installations, and the information in the third sentence about the further expenditure cited (who spent the money on that other fortification, to what country did those forts show allegience, etc.). Otherwise I think this whole paragraph has got to go. Thoughts? Feelings?

[edit] Battle of Corregidor

The original purpose of this article was on the island itself with strong mention of the battle during WWII. Since then, the majority of the article is on the battle. There is enough information to move this to a seperate Battle of Corregidor page. If no one objects, I will do this within several days. --† Ðy§ep§ion † Speak your mind 01:43, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
