[edit] Geography

Corwyn is one of the largest duchies in Gwynedd, as well as being one of the most strategically important regions in the kingdom due to its common border with the Kingdom of Torenth to the northeast of Corwyn. To the south lies the Southern Sea and the Twin Rivers, with the Duchy of Carthmoor to the southwest and the Crown Duchy of Haldane to the west. The northern Corwyn border touches the Earldoms of Derry and Lendour, as well as several smaller estates. Across the Southern Sea lie the lands of Orsal, Tralia, and the Forcinn States.

[edit] History

The Duchy of Corwyn was founded by King Festil I Furstán in 826, after his son, Prince Festil II, married the Heiress of Mooryn, Lady Brionne. As the first Duke of Corwyn, King Festil I chose Lord Dominic du Joux. Both Dominic and his father, Lord Richard, had supported Festil's coup to overthrow King Ifor Haldane of Gwynedd four years earlier, and Richard had died after taking a mortal wound while saving Festil's life. As a reward for his family's loyalty and sacrifices, Dominic was created the first Duke of Corwyn on October 1, 826. When Brionne died in 835, the Kingdom of Mooryn was officially dissolved, leaving in its place the Duchy of Corwyn, the Duchy of Carthmoor, and several smaller estates.

Corwyn retained an autonomous status until Prince Imre II Furstán-Festil, the Festillic Pretender, launched an invasion of Gwynedd in 983. Following the invasion, the Kings of Gwynedd began placing increased importance on the strategic value of Corwyn as a natural barrier between Torenth and the rest of Gwynedd. Duke Stiofan Anthony de Corwyn, the last descendant of the direct male line, died in 1068, at which point the title fell into abeyance and the lands of Corwyn were administered by a series of governors appointed by the Crown. The claim to the Duchy of Corwyn passed first to Stiofan's granddaughter, Countess Stevana of Lendour, and then to his great-granddaughter, Lady Alyce de Corwyn de Morgan. Alyce's son, Alaric Morgan, inherited the title upon his birth in 1091, becoming the seventh Duke of Corwyn and the first male heir in four generations.
