Cortlandt Street is a station on the BMT Broadway Line of the New York City Subway, located at the intersection of Cortlandt and Church Streets in Lower Manhattan. It is served by the R train at all times except late nights, when it is replaced by the N train. The W train provides supplementary service during rush hours, middays, and early evenings. This station is the closest stop on the BMT Broadway Line to the former World Trade Center. It was closed for about a year in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks. It was renovated in the 1970s and late 1990s, and once again in 2002 after the attacks to remove debris. This station is ADA-accessible in the southbound direction only, via the PATH World Trade Center temporary station entrance.
On August 20, 2005, Cortlandt Street station was closed for installation of a new pedestrian concourse underneath Dey Street as part of the Fulton Street Transit Center project. As part of the same project, the station will be made ADA-accessible in both directions. It will reopen in Spring 2007.
