Cornwall Central Middle School educates students in grades five through eight in the Cornwall Central School District in Orange County, New York. It is located a few blocks from New York Military Academy on Main Street in the town of Cornwall, near the Cornwall-on-Hudson village line. It is one of the few middle schools in New York to use the district type in its name.

The building is organized with four wings, housing each grade, radiating out from two central courtyards next to the cafeterias. One wall along the corridor that leads from the front office area to the library is done in wood paneling, a somewhat unusual material for a school building interior. Classrooms in the northeast (seventh grade) wing also boast sloping ceilings, another distinctive touch.

[edit] Building history

The building was built in 1957 as the district's high school. Sargent, Webster, Crenshaw & Folly were the architects, and John Rowe Construction the general contractor. A large addition was built on the southwest corner in 1964 by Neuss Construction and designed by Flemming & Silverman. In 1989 locker rooms and science labs were added to the northwest corner.

In its final years prior to the opening of the district's new high school, its population included eighth graders.
