Cork Suburban Rail

The Cork Suburban Rail network serves the Metropolitan Cork area in County Cork, Ireland.

It currently operates on two lines (Cóbh and Mallow), but another one is planned (Midleton) under the Transport 21 plan. Stations in italics are not yet built or open, but will be under Transport 21.

This service does not exist at present, though it will follow the Cóbh Line as far as Glounthaune where it will break away and go to Carrigtwohill and Midleton. This is planned under the Transport 21 transport plan. Plans are for the line to be complete by 2008.

  • Some trains run directly from Cobh to Mallow and vice-versa, stopping at every station on the way.
  • Cork City Council is in talks with Irish Rail to provide a station in Kilnap, near Farranree on the Mallow Line. It is hoped that the station will open in 2008 along with the three other planned stations and the re-opening of the Midleton line.
  • Biotechnology giant Amgen is seeking permission to build a railway station at its factory when it opens in 2009 in Carrigtwohill. It is hoped that the employees will use it to commute to work, as well as providing the company with freight trains.
