[edit] Station History and Background

The station has been seen as an interactive station since it started broadcasting. A key aspect of the station is the website, SMS (texts), as well as phone calls, all used for requests. This helps to create a variety of different aspects of the interactive section of the station, such as the CoreControl Chart. Also, the station has recently been trying to find new talent for the station through a UK wide talent search.

Whilst the station is interactive, there are large proportions of the schedule uses voicetracking. However, the station redeveloped the schedule to include a new breakfast show from Capital Disney presenter Allan Lake. The website has also recently been redeveloped. It's extra content includes information on artists and music, a music download service, interactive "now and next" with images of presenters and artists. A new aspect of interaction has been created through their MySpace site.

[edit] Core and Capital Disney

The relationship between Core and Capital Disney has changed over the years. When Capital Disney was launched in 2002 after replacing Cube, it was seen as a rival to Core. However, this very much changed when both stations were in the same group, GCap Media. Over the last year, the stations have become sister stations, with talent crossing over. The most noticable is that Allan Lake has left Capital Disney for the breakfast show on Core, after a successful period of doing a Sunday night show on Core. Even more recently, presenter Val Mellon has been heard on Capital Disney doing weekend mornings.

[edit] A Face For Radio

The "A Face For Radio" competition was launched in 2006, in an effort to produce a new talent for the station using a talent competition. The premiss was that friends of possible candidates nominated them to be entered into the competition, with the finder fee of £1000 being won by the friend of the eventual winner. After the entries were received, the number were whittled down to the final 10.

After the announcement was made of the final 10, the 10 competed in a variety of tasks to demonstrate their presenting skills, as well as have accounts on MySpace, where they gather friends to help them stay in the competition. The two with the lowest number of friends go head-to-head in the elimination, facing a task from Programme Controller Bern Leckie. After Bern's decision has been made, one of the two leaves. In the end, the winner will receive their own show on Core. The final 10 leavers are, in order of leaving the competition are Claire,Cherry ,Juice ,E Plus ,Dan ,Anna ,Abi ,Kellyanne ,Matt and Will, the winner of the competition. Will Goodhand, contestant in the UK series 1 of Beauty and the Geek (UK TV series) and a market research account manager, will be starting his new show on Core in the coming weeks.
