Core was the first album released by Stone Temple Pilots on September 29, 1992, by Atlantic Records.
This album is regarded as Stone Temple Pilots's most famous and features such hits as "Plush", "Creep", "Sex Type Thing", "Wicked Garden", and "Dead & Bloated". This album, released during the grunge movement of the early 1990's, was seen by many critics as a rip-off of other grunge bands, especially Pearl Jam. However, others have seen the album a true symbol of the movement, and it is generally thought of as a staple of the genre.

[edit] Trivia
- During the height of "Creep"'s popularity, many listeners mistook the song for Nirvana. People also thought that the song "Plush" was a Pearl Jam performance, based on the resemblance between Weiland's deep vocals in the song with Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder's vocal style.
- In the album's liner notes, lead singer Scott Weiland goes only by the name "Weiland". Nowhere on the album is his full name present.
- "Plush" won the 1993 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock performance.
- "Plush" also won the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist award at the 1993 MTV Music Video Awards.
