Coppell High School is a secondary school located in Coppell, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. Currently, it is the only high school in the Coppell Independent School District. The school graduated its first class of twenty-three students in 1965. As of the 2006-2007 school year, current enrollment is 2,960 students in grades 9-12. There are over 200 staff members at Coppell High School in order to accommodate the student body of nearly 3000. Athletic teams are known as the "Cowboys." The school colors are red, black, and white. Parents of this school's students previously voted to remove many vocational programs from the school in order to add more classes for college preparation. Coppell High School is a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Coppell High School has been ranked consistently as one of the "Top 1200 U.S. High Schools."

The school's population has grown increasingly in the past decade, prompting the Texas University Interscholastic League to upgrade Coppell High School from the 4A classification to 5A status for academic and athletic competition. Coppell High School has also changed their school system from a trimester system with 5 periods per day, to a semester system with 7 periods a day.
[edit] Honors and accolades
The school was rated academically unacceptable by the state of Texas (See article). However, it claimed there were errors in the ranking, and appealed it. On October 20, 2005, the appeal was successful, and Coppell High School regained its academically acceptable status. See article.
The Coppell High School Marching Band is considered to be one of the best bands in the country. The band has won many prestigious awards in the past years.They won the 4A state title in 1999 and placed seventh in the finals after placing third in the preliminary elimination round for the 2006 state marching contest. The Coppell High School Football Team recently qualified for its first play-off appearance in over three years.
