Copedent

Copedent is a table used to describe the tuning and pedal arrangement on a pedal steel guitar. The term was coined by Tom Bradshaw (musician) in an early 1970's article in Guitar Player magazine. It is short for "ChOrd PEDal arrangemENT". According to Tom Bradshaw, the term is pronounced "co-PEE-dent".

Copedant is an erroneous, and unfortunate alternate spelling.

In an example copedent table/graph below that was provided by GFI Musical Products, the first pedal, "P1", raises the pitch of strings 5 and 10 from "B" to "C#", etc.
