[edit] Confessor
Original VfD listing follows, from when this article was located at Confessor.
This is a pointless and unencyclopedic bit of trivia. Moreover, it is certainly not the primary meaning of the word 'confessor', which has several more significant connotations. Of course, that could be solved by moving it, but I don't think this warrants an article, particularly not of this length.--XmarkX 08:39, 1 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Widowed. Would support keep if seriously cleaned up to more popular usage, delete otherwise. Cool Hand Luke 03:45, 2 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Merge into Sword of Truth (which itself needs massive cleanup), or possibly a sub-article like Concepts in the Sword of Truth series by analogy with Concepts in the Wheel of Time series. --Phil | Talk 09:28, Nov 2, 2004 (UTC)
- Merge as Phil suggested, leave a disambiguation page, not a redirect —siroχo 10:07, Nov 2, 2004 (UTC)
- Delete: I don't trust a merge, and I absolutely oppose a redirect. We can't merge and delete, so delete. There is no way on earth any innocent research needs to type "confessor" into the search box, expecting to find out about the history and meaning of priests who grant absolution, should get this. That would be unforgivable, simply unimaginable. Geogre 17:18, 2 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Move to Confessor (Sword of Truth). List on requested articles. — Gwalla | Talk 22:23, 2 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. Information on fiction is valid. --L33tminion | (talk) 19:46, Nov 5, 2004 (UTC)
- Keep, but possibly change location. I generally think that information on things like this is worthwhile in an encyclopaedia. There are certainly articles on the races of Middle-earth, for example. If this is a fairly obscure series, maybe it should be merged with a main article. Also, Confessor should be changed to disambiguation. If the current article is to be retained as an independent, it should be moved to Confessor (Sword of Truth).
- Abstain Looks like fancruft to me, but perhaps some of the information could be merged. Chris 16:28, 7 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Completley rewrite so it's about the real meaning of confessor (I'll write a stub if no one else will). If it's deemed worthwhile, then put a link to Confessor (Sword of Truth) at the top. Do not make a disambiguation page; the title that's been used for a thousand years should get preference. Personally i think this should be trimmed and merged with some other Sword of Truth article (I'll let the fans pick which one; I'm sure there are several). -R. fiend 21:43, 7 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Concur with R. fiend, rewrite without disambig. --Improv 17:49, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- What Geogre said; second choice what R. fiend said. Niteowlneils 21:49, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Moved article to Confessor (Sword of Truth) and deleted the redirect at Confessor after fixing the relevant links. -Sean Curtin 01:48, Nov 20, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Mother Confessor
- The Mother Confessor article would fit under the General or Sisterhood sections. While reading through this article it was odd not to read about the head of the Confessors. Even if the articles are not merged, I think there should be information on the Mother Confessor mentioned here (though since the Mother Confessor article is short I think just merging it would be best). -User talk:Anarkeya, 07/23/06
- Merged from Mother Confessor -User talk:Anarkeya, 07/28/06
In response to this statement: "The magic lasts as long as the person is alive. It cannot be removed." There is one way that the magic can be removed. Khalan took an innocent man's confession and in turn for the wrong that was done, her wizard turned him into a wolf to live the life of an animal. He still loved Khalan, but it was a true compassionate love, not a mindless devotion. (This from Book One and/or Two)
[edit] Plagarism
Some of the content of this article seems to be copied from the novels; like this paragraph:
A Confessor could choose any man she wished, even one already married. She could travel the Midlands, searching for a proper father to her daughters, one who was strong, and maybe one who was handsome to her eyes. Whatever she wanted. Confessors were taught from a young age that the mate they choose must be a man of strength, so that the children they bear would be strong. But it couldn't be someone they cared for, because they would destroy him. In the throes of passion, a Confessor's hold on the power would relax, and she would release it into him, even though she didn't mean to, and then he would no longer be the person she cared for. There is no way for her to prevent herself from doing it. He would be hers, but not in the same way. The very one she cared for would be with her, but only because of the magic, no longer by his choice, and not because he wanted to. He would only be a shell, holding what she put into him. No Confessor would want that for a man for whom she cared. |
I don't have the novel with me so I can't check it but I am pretty sure this is copied almost word for word from the first novel. If it is taken from the novel, at least put it in quotations or please rewrite the text. -- Ladida 11:05, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
