360° Panorama of Concordia Station at Dome C, Antarctica, taken by Guillaume Dargaud in 2005, during the first winterover.
Visible are the two main buildings — the "noisy" building on the right and the "quiet" building on the left. The stack of red containers to the right of the noisy building contains the station's main power plant and water recycling plant. The containers behind the noisy building contain fuel tanks. The tanks are kept heated throughout the winter to keep the fuel from freezing up as temperatures fall below -80°C. The main buildings are connected by a walkway at the first floor level. In order to avoid the problem of gradual burial due to snow accumulation and heat transmission, the buildings have been raised on six large hydraulic feet that can be gradually extended.
The panorama was created from 6 images using a Nikon D70 camera with an 8mm fisheye lens. The camera was moved back with an adjustment plate so that the rotation axis would coincide with the nodal point of the camera.
