Consultor

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A CONSULTOR, in Latin, is one who gives council, i.e. a counselor.

In The Catholic Church, it is a specific title for various advisory positions :

  • in Rome, with either of the Congregations (departments of the Vatican administration of the universal church), advising the (Pro)Prefect
  • in a diocese, a priest advising the Bishop; in 1866 a college (ideally of 6) was prescribed as a specifically regulated body in the position canon law prescribes for the diocesan chapter
  • in an ecclesiastical province, advising the (Metropolitan) (Arch)bishop
  • in certain regular congregations
    • advising the general superior (e.g. six, from various geographical regions, with the Superior general of the Passionists)
    • advising a specific local superior, e.g. a Redemptorist Vice-provincial
