This article gives an overview of conservatism in Serbia. It is limited to conservative parties with substantial support, mainly proved by having had a representation in parliament. The sign ⇒ means a reference to another party in that scheme. For inclusion in this scheme it isn't necessary so that parties labeled themselves as a conservative party.

Conservatism in Serbia is dominated by Democratic Party of Serbia (Demokratska stranka Srbije, member IDU,EPP).There are several minor conservative parties which are part of the current coalition government.

[edit] From Liberal to National Party

  • 1881: Conservatives established their party, the Society for the promotion of Serbian Literature (Družina za potmoganje srpske književnosti)
  • 1883: The party is renamed Liberal Party (Liberalna stranka)
  • 1904: A left-wing faction seceded as the ⇒ Liberal Democratic Party, the rest continues as the National Party (Narodna stranka)
  • 1905: The ⇒ Liberal Democratic Party merged into the National Party
  • 1920: The party disappears

  • 1881: Liberals established the Serbian Progressive Party (Srpska napredna stranka) which a few years later developed into a conservative direction
  • 1925: The party ceased to exist

  • 1881: The People’s Radical Party (Narodna radikalna stranka) is formed as a radical party but after 1900 it evolved into a conservative direction
  • 1905: A left-wing faction seceded as the ⇒ Independent Radical Party (Samostalna radikalna stranka)
  • 1945: The party is banned

  • 1992: A wing seceded from the ⇒ Democratic Party and constituted the Democratic Party of Serbia (Demokratska stranka Srbije)
  • 1997: A faction seceded as the ⇒ Democratic Christian Party of Serbia ( Demohrišćanska stranka Srbije )
  • 2004: The ⇒ People’s Democratic Party merged into the Democratic Party of Serbia

  • 1997: A wing seceded from the ⇒ Serbian Renewal Movement and founded the New Serbia (Nova Srbija)
