Conquer Online is a F2P Chinese fantasy-themed MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) for Windows PCs, developed by TQ Digital. The Conquer Online landscape is a 2D rendition of mythical China within a 2.5D environment and straightforward combat-focused gameplay, incorporating common elements of many MMORPGs.[1] TQ Digital has servers located in United States. In the game, players can choose from 4 distinct classes, participate in city-wide battles, and enjoy PK at leisure. Gamers Hell says that players in Conquer Online "can also chat, make friends, get married, create powerful guild and change their appearance as they like".
Downloading and playing Conquer Online is free. To generate revenue, the game's creators sell an in-game item known as a Dragon Ball, in groups of 2 or 5, or bulk packs costing several hundred dollars. These items are often purchased by high-level players to increase the strength of their equipment, saving them dozens of hours of trying to do so in-game. The game's operators also sell Conquer Online installation CDs for those who cannot download the installation files or would like to own a hard copy of the game.
It is strictly against the Conquer Online terms of service for players to trade their in-game items for real-life currency and TQ Digital attempts to terminate all accounts associated with this process.
The game can also be downloaded in its Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish versions.

[edit] Gameplay
[edit] Guilds and guild wars
Conquer Online allows high leveled players to start their own guild for 1,000,000 silvers (the in-game currency). Anyone can join a guild in conquer, but leaving one requires that the player has donated at least 20,000 silvers. Guilds are controlled by a guild leader and (maximum of 5) deputy leaders. Additionally, a guild can have branches, each with it's own branch manager. Guilds in conquer are often a place for players to meet and receive help, and guilds compensate a player for a portion of the experience lost after being killed by another player.
The entire Conquer Online world, except for the map of the beginning city, allows for free player-killing. Player killers accumulate points for killing other players who are not enemies of their guild, and these points give in-game NPCs (guards) reason to attack and kill player-killers. Points slowly decreased based on time, or upon death.
Another feature of Conquer Online is the server-wide Guild War, which occurs every week. During the Guild War, every guild who choose may have it's members attempt to capture a guild pole from the guild who currently controls it. To do this, a guild must storm a castle, taking down several gates along the way, and then must complete deplete the life of the current pole. When the pole's life bar has depleted, whichever guild did the most damage to the pole now owns it, and may control the castle doors so as to protect the pole until the end of the guild war period. Once the guild war period has ended, the guild which last owned the pole wins, and some benefits are granted to the reigning guild. The guild controlling the pole can enter and exit through the gate and leaders of the guild may open the gate. The guild controlling the pole may move guild conductresses, go into the Training Grounds for no charge (normally players must pay 1000 silvers), and also gains guild fund while the pole is under their control.
[edit] Combat and leveling
[edit] Skills
There are a number of skills available in Conquer Online, though the skills a player gains access to changes depending on what class he/she chooses to play as. There are two main types of skill:
- Combat skills. These inflict direct damage of some kind onto an enemy.
- Attribute skills. These change a character's attributes in some way, such as increasing attack or defense.
Skills are powered in three ways: through mana, stamina, or XP. Mana is similar to MP (Magic Points) in other games. The use of skills depletes these points, while the use of potions (Mana), sitting (Stamina), killing monsters (XP), or the use of a taoist skill called meditation (Mana), increases them.
[edit] Experience
Conquer Online utilizes an experience point system similar to many MMORPGs. Killing monsters increases [Experience points] until a player reaches 100%, whereupon the player's character will advance to the next level. Characters receive experience per successive attack made, and some bonus experience is rewarded upon killing the monster. Players can also join teams, in which a player will gain bonus experience for the monsters that teammates kill as long as the teammate is within a certain distance.
The experience curve of Conquer Online is slow but has jumps at intervals where the game is designed to make leveling easier. These 'jumps' occur at levels ending with a 0, 1, 5 or 6. For example, levels 10, 21, 45 or 66. Players usually get much more EXP at these 'jump' levels.
[edit] Powerleveling
There is a powerleveling system in Conquer Online. Higher-leveled players are encouraged to power-level the beginners for the reward of Virtue Points, and an insignificant amount of silvers. Although all players can help others level, only a player above level 70 helping to level another character at least 20 levels lower than themself can receive virtue points for their efforts. For each level the beginner gains, the team leader (who meets the required conditions above) will receive a set amount of virtue points.
The amount of VPs vary from the level of the beginner — a higher level gives more VPs, since it takes more time for them to achieve the next level. Powerleveling a level 1 and 2 character gives very low amounts of VP. VP is not gained when the person being powerleveled is above level 70.
Powerleveling does have the disadvantage that skills and weapon proficiencies will not increase during the powerleveling. To supplement this, players must place their characters in the Training Grounds, in which a character will repeatedly perform whichever skill told, without costing Mana, Health, or Stamina, but at a reduce skill-leveling speed.
[edit] Weapons
Trojans and warriors (and to a certain extent, archers, provided they have the strength to wield a weapon) may choose to wield many different types of weapons. There are two categories of weapons: one-handed and two-handed. Some one-handed weapons are clubs, scepters, swords and hooks, while some two-handed weapons are poleaxes, spears, wands, and longhammers. Each type of weapon has advantages and disadvantages compared to the rest. Weapons are limited for taoists and archers (two of the possible classes), but warriors and trojans can choose from a variety of weapons.
Generally speaking, the weapons are categorized in either a low-damage/high accuracy group or a high-damage/low accuracy group.
The most widely-used one-handed weapons in Conquer Online include Clubs, Swords, and Blades. Other one-handed weapons are rarely used and typically have a low market value. An example of this is the price of super items. For a super level 70 sword it can cost in excess of 10 million. For a super level 70 dagger however, it will only cost 1 and a half million. The most widely-used two-handed weapons include the Spear, Wand and Poleaxe is also becoming a close competitor. Spear has an excellent skill which has a 47% chance of doing 210% damage, while Wand has a skill which hits monsters 360 degrees around you with 2 handed range and extra damage. Poleaxe on the other hand has the highest maximum damage in the game for a single weapon but has low dex/accuracy which is often ignored as it has the skill Boreas which gives it 180% damage with 38% chance of it activating.
[edit] Upgrading equipment
While equipment's color can be changed, there is only one type of equipment that can be worn for each class and level. After rebirth, characters can also use any equipment that is under level 70. Equipment has a range of quality levels, starting with Normal, then Refined, Unique, Elite and lastly Super. Equipment may be upgraded using either DragonBalls to increase the item's quality, or Meteors to increase the item's required level (and also making the item stronger).
Two NPCs are available to upgrade quality and level of equipment, including the ArtisanWind, and the MagicArtisan. The ArtisanWind charges only 1 DragonBall or Meteor to strengthen equipment, compared to multiple required with MagicArtisan, but ArtisanWind can sometimes fail, taking your Meteor or DragonBall, and returning to you your un-upgraded equipment (also removing 1/2 of the equipment's durability). The level and quality of the equipment affects this success rate, and also affects the amount that MagicArtisan charges. Upgrading an item with meteors or dragonballs also has a very small chance of adding a socket (maximum of two) to the item. Socketed non-weapon equipment is the most expensive in game with the exception of +6 and above equipment. After level 120, MagicArtisan will not upgrade an equipment's level, and a player must use WeaponMaster at the cost of several DragonBalls per level.
'Fixed' items have the most powerful properties of any type of item, but are limited to under level 60 and cannot be upgraded in any way. These items cannot be created, only found when dropped by champion-type monsters (MonsterMessenger and MonsterAide).
An item may also be 'composed', adding "+#" to the item's name, with a number between 1 and 9. In order to compose an item to the next number, a player will will need 3 items of the current +# (two will be destroyed, and one will be upgraded to the next number). This number, similar to the quality levels, makes the item more powerful.
Gems can be mined and used to add an effect to items, such as increased damage, weapon proficiency, and overall experience gain. Gems are also needed for players to reborn (see below of the article). To insert a gem into an item, it must have a socket, and there are a maximum of two sockets per piece of equipment. Additionally, items can be blessed, or enchanted, which will respectively decrease damage or increase a player's health.
Gems are required also for enchantment. The amount of enchanted HP increase depends upon the quality and the type of gem used. Gems come in three qualities: normal, refined, and super. The effect of the gem depends on the quality, with normal being the lowest and super as the highest. Usually, the higher the quality of the gem, the more expensive the gem is.
[edit] Economy
Conquer Online has a quickly-changing inflation rate. Due to the ever-growing high-level population, the prices of certain low-level items decrease over time. However, Meteors and DragonBalls are in constant demand, because few players can buy DragonBalls with real-life currency. Conquer Online has a free market system which allows players to buy and sell items through market stalls in a special non-PK market map. The Meteor and DragonBall prices often inflate rapidly and then drop suddenly because "marketers" (people who stay in the market all day) abuse these inflating prices and people stop buying. Warrior items, because of low demand, are rarely affected by the inflation.
[edit] Quests
Quests are divided into categories based on a character's level. Quests help a character gain possession of otherwise hard to acquire items such as rare gems and weapons. They can require the player to obtain special items from slaying certain monsters, which are then brought to an NPC who will give a reward.
[edit] Class and character info
Many Conquer Online servers are hostile to new players. Twin City, the starting city for all players, used to have several Player-Killers (PKers) waiting to kill any new players immediately, until the game developers decided to make Twin City PK-Free, to encourage new players. However, there are still bugs which allow serveral reborn classes to pk others, although it is very rare that this happens. More guards and patrols have been placed in the city, but it is more to please low-level players rather than providing additional security in the city. Without being a special class reborn player, you can only attempt to pk patrols or guards, which usually gets youself instantly killed by them. [2]
There are four possible classes in Conquer Online, though one of the classes, the taoist class, splits off into fire taoist and water taoist at level 40. No matter which class is chosen, the basic character options are male or female, and small or large. The small and large characters are differ mostly in their appearance (and with clothes on, they are not always different sizes), though there are a few other variations in certain aspects of the characters. The most noticeable difference is jumping speed while unarmed or with certain weapons equipped. Also gender can, likely through a simple glitch, affect other in-game aspects, such as abilities in the Training Grounds(TG). Female trojans wielding a club and using a skill called Rage can stand in between two stakes and can hit them with the skill. Male trojans, however, cannot do so.
Each type of body armor has a different look, can only be worn when a certain level has been achieved, and every class has different looking body armor. Each piece of armour, however, may be dyed one of seven colours. Characters may wear a hat (with the exception of the trojan class) which also appears on the character and can also be dyed, although a hat can be foregone for earring instead, allowing a player to show-off one of many hairstyles. There are currently 16 different hairstyles to choose from, one of which is a bald head. Hair may also be dyed 6 different colors.
The classes are as follows:
[edit] Archer
The archer class uses a bow as a weapon, and the armor appearances range from rags made of leather and/or fur (low level) to elegant capes and wings (high level). It is widely popular for its ability to hunt for items quickly and its ability to fly. The archer skill 'scatter' aids in hunting for items as it allows a large number of enemies to be hit at the same time by shooting multiple arrows. Items that drop from the monsters are potentially valuable, so the more monsters that are killed, the more efficient the hunt is.
Archers are common powerlevelers. Powerleveling is performed in a similar way to hunting; the archer will use scatter on monsters which he/she can kill fairly quickly. The purpose is to give team experience to lower level characters in the team. Powerleveling will give a player over level 70 virtue points (at least if the player who is power-leveling is 20 levels higher then the player who is getting power-leveled).
The archer skill 'fly' enables the player to float in the air for a period of time. At first the player will be able to float in the air as an xp skill for 40 seconds until he is level 70, and again at level 90, when he learns two stamina flys, the first one 40 seconds and the second one being 60. This is a stamina skill, so the player have more freedom on choosing when to fly. Flying renders the archers immune to all physical attacks. While flying, the archer is only vulnerable to ranged attacks, such as arrows, magic, or a special xp skill called flying moon for the warrior class.
[edit] Trojan
The Trojan class is a strong melee class due mainly to their ability to dual wield 1-handed weapons. This ability becomes available after a 'promotion' at level 40. Trojans have the highest hitpoints by default (non-reborn), than all other classes but their armour offers little magical defence. This leaves them potentially vulnerable to the taoist class which uses magic as its primary method of dealing damage. The Trojan class armor has the lowest magic defense rating out of the four classes. Upon level 3, Trojans can receive the XP skill Cyclone that temporarily increases the user's attack speed and movement speed. The Duration of the Cyclone XP skill can be increased upon successive kills of enemies while Cyclone is active.
One feature that comes with the Trojan's level 40 promotion, and the ability to wield two weapons, is a skill called Hercules: an area of effect attack that attacks several enemies in close proximity to the player. The damage of the Hercules skill is approximately one third of the user's usual attack power, making it somewhat weak with average weaponry. To use Hercules two of the same type of weapon (an example being two clubs) must be equipped, though hercules does have some advantages for higher level trojans in terms of PKing. Dual Wielding does not mean the character can attack twice at once, but instead refers to the fact that they can equip two one-handed weapons to attack with at the same time. The dual weapon wielding ability is exclusive to the trojan class. The left-hand weapon that the trojan wields adds half of the weapon's attack power, dexterity, and frequency to the user's stats.
[edit] Warriors
Warriors are similar to Trojans, execpt they are the only class that can wield shields. They are, in most cases, forced to use two-handed weapons due to their lack of damage with a shield. What warriors lack in attack, they compensate in defence. Warriors have very high defence against melee attacks once they reach level 40 as they can equip a shield which gives a high amount of physical and magical defenses. Warriors have a skill called Superman which enables them to level faster than the normal class by hitting 10x harder on mobs and another skill, Rush, allows warriors to deal double damage to a monster trapped at a corner at the expense of the shield's durability. Superman can also help in pvp as it enables the warrior to hit 2x harder on players. Currently warriors are considered a very weak class due to their lack of health before rebirth and very similar armor rating to a Trojan which has much more damage due to dual wielding which a Warrior cannot do. This results in few people choosing to play as a warrior. However, this also means that all warrior have a financial advantage as warriors items sold by players are much cheaper than that of the other professions. For example, in Eagle server, a +1 trojan armor costs 1~1.2 million silvers while a +1 warrior armor costs only 400k(400 thousand). This explains why many warriors have equipments that are more powerful than other classes(usually in terms of the +# that their items have)
[edit] Taoist
Taoists are the only class that uses mana, making them the only spellcasters other than certain monsters (Unless you are reborn, you can relot points into mana - giving you the option to use some magic spells). All taoists (sub-40, fire, and water) wear the same traditional Chinese robes as their armour. Appearance-wise, it is impossible to tell which subclass a taoist is unless they cast a class-specific spell.
[edit] Below level 40
A taoist below level 40 has a primary attack called 'thunder', which allows them to attack one monster from a distance, and a healing spell called 'cure'. When the taoist reaches level 40, it may choose one of the taoist subclasses: fire taoist or water taoist.
[edit] Fire taoist
A specialist in magic attacks. He/she may use powerful spells such as 'tornado' or 'fire meteor' (Fire meteor at the highest level deals around 3 times the damage of one tornado but is slow and has a 30% chance to miss) to attack one monster, or, starting at level 65, he/she may cast a 'Fire Circle' around him/herself to attack many monsters at once and even more as the skill's level progresses. Despite the fact, in PvP, that the 'water taoist' and 'archer' may also attack a player from a distance, they could be considered weaker due to the ability to deal less damage in one strike. [3]
[edit] Water taoist
The 'water taoist' is the sole support class. It has many support spells which are advantageous to other players, and its primary attack is limited to the spell called 'fire'.
It may seem strange for a water taoist to use a primary spell called fire, while the fire taoist's primary spell is most often tornado, but there is an explanation. Originally, the water taoist was limited to using only the attack thunder, given to all taoists starting at level 1. However, there was a glitch that allowed water taoists to learn the spell fire, which was originally meant to be a skill for fire taoists before they learned better spells. This glitch was purposely never fixed in order to allow water taoists to be a little stronger, since thunder is a very weak spell.
Even with the spell 'fire', however, the water taoist has a low attack power, and they are unable to hit multiple targets at once. The spell called 'pray' can be learned at level 70 and enables the 'water taoist' to bring another player back from the dead at the cost of 1000 mana. A similar resurrection skill can be learned at level 40, but this is an XP skill. Water taoists are also useful to other players by providing them with extra damages through the skill, Stigma, which can increase players' attacks by up to 30% of their base damage.
However after rebirth a water taoist who reborns into another water taoist can become very powerful when wielding a two handed weapon as they can re-allot their attribute points so they are very accurate. And since water taoists gain double exp after level 70, water->water taoists can level extremely fast (although this is only true when a low leveled player is in the team), and are also effective at PKing. Their attack is still lower than a trojan's and is similar to a warrior's but people use melee weapons with taoists as they have high magic defense.
[edit] Metal Taoist
This is to be implemented and only exists in the Chinese version of this game.
[edit] Wood Taoist
This is to be implemented and only exists in the Chinese version of this game.
[edit] Rebirth
[edit] 1st Rebirth
Once a character reaches level 120, or level 110 for the water taoist class, he/she is allowed to be reborn to a level 15 character of any of the four classes. Being reborn allows the character to start over from level 15 with extra attributes. For every level above level 120, players will gain 1, 3, 6, 10, 15 and so on extra attribute points (55 being the most); receive a unique weapon with a hidden spell and many more special in-game advantages that do not apply or are not open to non-reborn characters. There are several advantages to being reborn as the same class. Players can receive new skills, such as 'dodge' for fire taoist/fire taoist reborn characters. Reborn characters are able to summon a guard (iron, copper, silver, then gold) or pet (bat for trojan, fire rat for warrior, skeleton for archer, and magic bat for taoists). Reborn characters have a special defense after level 70 which takes away 30% damage and increase Attack by 30%.
A full list of skills that are learned after being reborn for the first time, can be found on the Conquer Online site along with a list of the monsters available for summoning.
[edit] 2nd Rebirth
[edit] Requirements
To gain 2nd Rebirth you must have already been reborn, and be over level 120.
[edit] The Quest
Quest details can be found here: http://www.conqueronline.com/guide/quests/2reborn.htm
If you want to enter, but don't meet the requirements stated above you can team up with a player who meets the requirements.
[edit] Benefits
Once you are twice Reborn you will be surrounded by the light of vigor, distinguishing you from the common folk.
As in the first Reborn, your level will be set to 15, and all of your equipment sent to the lowest level. Also at level 70 (also as in 1st reborn) you can wear any gears lower than level 70.
According to your level you will gain attribute points, these points will be added on to the points gained from 1st Reborn. For example a player with 2 Reborns at level 130 will get 55+55 attribute points.
You will get a 50% defensive bonus in both battles against non-Reborns and Monsters. You will also get a 30% Reduction against 1st Reborns and 2nd Reborns.
Last but not least you will get a special Blessing Skill, which appears to give you greater luck. More info here: http://www.conqueronline.com/guide/quests/2rebornLucky.htm
[edit] Skills Retained
Dependent on which classes you reborned to and from, each character can have a unique set of skills from (currently) up to 3 odd classes. For example, a character may start off as a water taoist, reborn to a warrior, and second reborn to a fire taoist to have skills from all 3 classes.
A general guide to these combinations is located here.
[edit] Staff
Conquer Online has many divisions of Staff, including Game Masters (GMs), Program Managers (PMs), forum Administrators and Moderators, and more. GMs typically take the role of dealing with account issues or other in-game problems. Unfortunately however, some players believe that GM services are not adequate in this game. Additionally, PMs generally oversee the game as a whole, and are not often seen in the game either. On most servers, a general survey of players will show that many have never seen a GM or PM; a worrying statistic.[citation needed]
The official forum is run by one main Administrator, who is responsible for banning users when appropriate, or removing avatars and signatures when necessary. Occasionally, this Administrator will forward information regarding bugs and other in-game issues to the relevant department.
Additionally, the former mentioned Administrator is responsible for overseeing the Moderators, a group of respected players (or ex-players) who are hired on a voluntary basis. They are not paid in any manner, in-game or out. They are responsible for acting as a liaison between the players and the official staff. Furthermore, they are assigned to different sections of the forum to moderate them (some much more than others), such that they can remove as much spam and inappropriate content as they are able.
