Connexn Technologies

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Connexn Technologies, a computer company, was founded in 1999.

Chuck Crenshaw received some venture capital funding and purchased "The Connection" software from The Hutton Company. Many of Hutton's employees also joined Connexn Technologies with some staying in a Rochester, N.Y. office and others building up a presence on Colorado's Front Range. The Colorado office eventually ended up in Westminster. Eventually the original RLEC software was purchased by CommSoft and the Revenue Assurance portion of the company was purchased by Azure Solutions .

[edit] The Early Days

"The Connection" software was rebranded and extended by Connexn. The primary goal of the software was automating repetitive tasks for telecommunications companies. Initially this was implemented as a way of taking new orders from the billing system or order entry system, provisioning them on the switch, and reporting back to the billing system the success of the task. The software had its own relatively simple programming language but was extremely powerful in the kinds of tasks that it could be programmed to accomplish. The company stayed focused on the Rural Local Exchange Carriers which are generally smaller phone companies.

[edit] The Beginning of the End

Around the year 2000 as Revenue Assurance became a popular topic for Telecommunications Firms, Connexn realized that The Connexn platform was capable of performing Revenue Assurance work. The system could easily be configured to perform audits of accounts and switches, finding and taking action based upon any discrepancies between the two. Due to the platform's previous role as a provisioning automation system, Connexn was in a unique position to be able to find problems and fix them. Most Revenue Assurance consulting was provided as an auditing service leaving the telecommunications carrier to actually fix the problems.

After doing several Revenue Assurance projects and creating several pieces of related software, Connexn began looking towards expanding its set of software tools. To achieve this, the company purchased the creatively titled Telecomms Consultancy & Solutions (TCS) and also Keuka Systems.

[edit] The End of Connexn

In the Fall of 2004, Azure Solutions purchased Connexn's stable of software and hired Connexn's employees. Azure then completed a sale of the original "The Connexn" platform to CommSoft, a telecommunications billing provider who had a competing automation product as an add-on to the Commsoft billing system.

[edit] The Software vs. The Services

Connexn often struggled with its status as a Software Vendor vs. being a Consultancy. The company tried several times to OEM its product for third parties and work with partners to move more into the higher margin Software Vendor role. However, the company had more successful engagements as a professional services firm performing implementations of its own software.
