[edit] History

In the 1920s, Route 41 was part of the original alignment of New England Interstate Route 4 (NE-4), which originally ran west of the New York-Connecticut state line south of Sharon to New York City. NE-4 was redesignated as U.S. Route 7 in 1926. In 1930, the southern terminus of US 7 was shifted eastward to Norwalk, Connecticut, with the alignment shifting to east of the New York-Connecticut state line. The section of old US 7 within Connecticut prior to the realignment was designated as Route 41 in the 1932 renumbering.
