Congress Center (Portland, Oregon)

Congress Center (Formerly the Orbanco Headquarters Building and Security Pacific Plaza) is an office building in Portland, Oregon. It is currently the seventh tallest building in the city. The current name is taken from the Congress Hotel which sat on this site from 1912 until the late 1970's.
The firm of Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM) designed the Congress Center, which opened in 1980.
The reflective, dark glass contrasts with the mostly white or lighter colored architecture common in Portland's architectural history. However, the highly reflective surface of Congress Center's glass curtain walls reflect all the nearby buildings. Most notable are 1000 Broadway, the Portland Building and the Multnomah County Courthouse.
Arches from the old Congress Hotel were restored for use as an entry to a lower level restaurant.
