The area, which was constructed between the 1980's and the present day, is a mix of mainly 3, 4, and 5 bedroom detached homes, but with some two bedroom semi-detached homes and bungalows. The houses have been built by a variety of British builders, including David Wilson Homes, Redrow and Bovis.

Much local debate rages to the the suitability of the line passing such a well to-do area, with local protagonists preferring the line to pass through a more working-class district instead.
Before construction the location was marshland punctuated with willow trees, many of which have been incorporated into the leafy feel of the area, with parks and open spaces. A proportion of the estate to the east sits on an former waste tip. Compton Acres has one primary school, Greythorn, as well as a private day nursery.
