The common sawfish, Pristis pristis, is a sawfish of the family Pristidae, found in subtropical waters of the Pacific Ocean, between latitudes 45° N and 17° S. Its length is up to 5 m.
[edit] Habitat
The common sawfish inhabits inshore coastal waters to moderate depths, and is also found around off lying islands, and in estuaries, lagoons, river mouths, and even freshwater. It feeds on fishes and bottom-living animals. Freshwater populations occur to about 750 km up the Amazon River. Populations in Lake Nicaragua may be non-migratory.
Reproduction is ovoviviparous.
