Commission Junction
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Commission Junction is an online advertising company owned by ValueClick.
Commission Junction and Linkshare are today the two largest Affiliate Networks in North America and probably the whole Internet. Advertisers are Merchants or Service Providers that sell products or services on the Internet and are looking for Publishers or Affiliates to promote them.
Publishers are mostly other Websites, but also Publishers without a Site who promote the offers from Advertisers via other means. Other means include but are not exclusively Ads posted by Publishers at Search Engines in a Bidding Setting (PPC Marketing) or Search Engine Marketing.
Refer to the Affiliate marketing Article for details about the business model at compensation structures.

The former competitor BeFree is also owned by ValueClick. BeFree was purchased by ValueClick before Commission Junction. Only after the acquisition of Commission Junction did ValueClick slowly dissolve the BeFree Network. Contracts with current BeFree Merchants are not being renewed and no new Merchants are accepted as BeFree Customers. Once the contract with BeFree expires, Merchants will have the choice to either migrate to the Commission Junction platform or look elsewhere for an alternative provider.
This process began around 2003-2004 and picked up speed towards the end of 2005. It is not certain yet when the BeFree Platform is going to be shut down forever.
