From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Commerce Square is a high-rise office building complex in Center City, Philadelphia. It consists of One and Two Commerce Square, identical 40-story office towers that stand 565-feet tall[1] with a 30,000-square foot urban landscaped courtyard between them.[2] The complex has approximately 1.85 million-square feet of office space, 92,000-square feet of retail space and 175,000-square feet of underground parking. It was designed by Henry N. Cobb and Douglas Gardner of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners.[3]

Construction of One Commerce Square began in June 1985 and ended in mid-1987 while construction of Two Commerce Square did not commence until July 1990, ending in July, 1992.[4]

The courtyard is a welcome respite from city life and is usually filled with office workers and tourists. It features granite paving, landscaping, a large fountain, benches and lunch tables plus a restaurant and small stores. It was refurbished in 2006.

The street address of One Commerce Square is 2005 Market Street while it is 2001 Market Street for Two Commerce Square

Currently, the Murano, a high-rise residential condominium, is under construction to the plot immediately west from Commerce Square. Its sales office is located on the ground floor of One Commerce Square.
