Commendation (elm hybrid)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The elm hybrid Commendation ™ is a Morton Arboretum selection, derived from a controlled crossing of the Accolade ™ hybrid with a hybrid of the Siberian Elm U. pumila and European Field Elm U. minor from eastern Russia. Commendation ™ is vigorous and robust, with upright branches supporting relatively large leaves. The tree is highly tolerant of drought but, like some of the other Morton introductions, can be readily defoliated by the elm leaf beetle, Japanese beetle and Gypsy moth.
Commendation ™ is being promoted by the Chicagoland Grows corporation, but is not yet (2006) widely available in the USA. It is not known to be in cultivation in Europe or Australasia.
