Shortly after the cancellation of the series Commander in Chief in Spring 2006, rumors began to swirl that a TV movie would be produced in late 2006. Shortly thereafter, there were a number of reports confirming the TV movie, one of which was made by Geena Davis to The Stage. However, as of Fall 2006, plans for the movie have been cancelled.

- On May 16, TVseriesfinale.com reported that although Commander In Chief had been cancelled there was ongoing negotiation between Rod Lurie and Steve McPherson concerning the production of a Commander In Chief TV Movie.[2]
- On May 17th, Tvsquad.com led with a report which again confirmed that there would be a Commander In Chief TV Movie, however also contained information from a report by zap2it.com which claimed that if ratings for the TV movie were good it could lead to another TV Movie or new episodes being produced.[3]
- On June 26, Geena Davis confirmed that a TV Movie would be made while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live. [4]
- On June 30, shortly after the cancellation of the TV show, Geena Davis told The Stage that a Commander In Chief TV movie would be produced, and that this would be her next project.[5]
- On Oct 28, TV columnist Matt Roush of TVGuide.com writes that the movie has been cancelled: "I have it on excellent authority that this project is no longer in the works." [6]
