CommVault Systems

CommVault Systems Incorporated is a United States based company specializing in storage management software. Created in 1988 as a developement group in AT&T's Bell Labs, the group produced AT&T's in-house backup software, Automatic Backup, Archive and Recovery Software. AT&T CommVault was spun off with Lucent in 1996 and later that year went private with a management buyout. It went public (NASDAQ: CVLT) in September 2006.
Their current product line includes:
- Galaxy Backup and Recovery -- backup software and recovery
- Quick Recovery -- volume snapshotting and replication
- Continuous Data Replicator -- file-based replication
- Data Migrator -- hierarchical storage management
- Data Archiver -- compliance
All products are controlled by a Microsoft Windows server and a Microsoft SQL Server based engine.
CommVault is a direct competitor to other companies in this field, including VERITAS Software and their Backup Exec and NetBackup products, EMC's Legato product, Computer Associates Arcserve, Hewlett-Packard OpenView Storage Data Protector, and others.
CommVault has created a line of storage products that use common technology to simplify integration, administration, and installation.
