[edit] Video
The single's music video was directed by Dave Meyers. In the video, Duff is shown in her house walking from room to room waiting for her boyfriend to come, who is stuck in the rain. While walking, her friends come over and watch television with her in her living room. At the end of the video, her boyfriend makes it to her house and she is shown hugging him in the rain.
The song was also used as the theme for MTV's reality show Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. It appears on the new soundtrack for Laguna Beach.
The song was an instant and international hit and proved to be a great follow up single. It was also a critical hit because of it's mature lyrics and sound.

[edit] Controversy
During a performance of "Come Clean" on MTV's New Year's Eve 2004, the vocal track Duff was miming along to skipped, throwing her vocals out of sync with the live instruments. As a last resort, the track was cut out and Duff had to sing the ending lines of the song, after the final chorus, 100% live. Her vocals have been described as "pitchy" and this occasion has led many to question whether Duff sings live.
