The Columbus Catfish are a minor league baseball team in Columbus, Georgia. They are a Class A team in the South Atlantic League, and have been a farm team of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays since September 29, 2006.[1]

The Catfish took their current name in 2004, after moving to Columbus from Albany, Georgia, where they were known as the South Georgia Waves. The team originally played in Wilmington, North Carolina as the Wilmington Waves as one of the expansion teams in 2001, along with the Lexington Legends. The team left after its inaugural season (2001) due to the lack of a permanent stadium. They currently play home games at Golden Park. The team colors are royal blue, peach, and sand. The name Catfish references the team's location in the Southeast and the city of Columbus' position on the Chattahoochee River.

[edit] Notable events

May 20, 2004: Catfish pitcher Chuck Tiffany pitched a 7-inning perfect game against the Greensboro Bats in game 2 of a doubleheader. Tommy Lasorda, Tiffany's boyhood idol, saw the performance.
