Colts Neck High School
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Colts Neck High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school located in Colts Neck Township, New Jersey, as part of the Freehold Regional High School District. The school is located at at the corner of County Route 537 and Five Points Road.
The school currently serves over 2,000 students from Colts Neck Township and from portions of Freehold Borough, Farmingdale, Howell Township and Marlboro Township.
The school's mascot is the Cougar chosen collectively by the student body in a competition. The school took a break from the Freehold Regional High School District tradition of choosing colonial mascots that the other schools have. The school's motto is "Let The Tradition Begin" chosen by the senior class for the class t-shirt.
In the 2004 football season, the mascot was stolen at the thanksgiving football game. It reappeared in the 2005 basketball season when the Cougars took on the Colonials, their biggest rival, at halftime during a basketball game, being thrown around by the Colonials fans.[citation needed]

[edit] History
The Colts Neck High School was open for students in September 1998[1] with its first graduating class in 2001. Around 200 students made up the initial graduating class. Students were "redistricted" to the school based on the distance of their home to the school. There was also a drive for student volunteers to join the school's population, which had mixed results.
Between 2001 and 2002, the school was extended on the academic side by adding another section. The school's original design was meant to expand as such to accommodate a larger student body. Unlike the other schools in the district, the entire building is fully climate controlled. It has an inner courtyard across from the cafeteria for students to eat outdoors and to host events. The academic portion consists of two floors with science and languages on the upper levels. English, math, and history occupy the lower levels. Electives in technology and home science are located on the gymnasium side. The school has two gym rooms, the larger one consisting of two full-size basketball courts or four tennis courts. The smaller gym was built next to the main one. There is also a large weight room the size of a regular class room for 30 students.
