Colonial Players

Colonial Players remains, over fifty years after its founding, one of the pillars of Annapolis, Maryland's active community theatre scene. Founded in 1949, the theatre moved into its current space at 108 East St. (less than a block from the state capitol) in 1955. Colonial's two claims to fame are its unique theatre-in-the-round setup and its annual production of a musical A Christmas Carol.
Buying tickets for the limited showing of A Christmas Carol is considered a local tradition with cast members serving hot cider to those waiting in line for the box office.
In recent years, the company has taken steps to introduce more commercially risky shows into its repertoire by establishing an artistic committee to select its plays. Its other endeavors include a one-act festival and a promising playwright competition.
