The Colonel (Abdul Al-Rahman ) is a fictional superhuman and member of the Liberators in the Ultimate Marvel Universe, published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Mark Millar and artist Bryan Hitch, he first appears in The Ultimates 2 #7.
The name Abdul Al-Rahman is used for its phonetic similarity for the Zoroastrian deity Ahriman or Angra Mainyu, the Evil equivalent of the deity Ahura Mazda.[citation needed]
[edit] Fictional character biography
Furious at the invasion of Iran by American super-soldiers, scrawny Azeri teenager Abdul Al-Rahman volunteers to undergo medical treatments to gain superhuman abilities that would allow him to strike back at America. The treatments are successful, and Al-Rahman rapidly gains muscle mass and an athletic physique. He is described in Ultimates 2 #10 as "the first person since Steve Rogers responsive to the Super Soldier Serum."
During the Liberators' invasion of America, he engages Captain America (Steve Rogers) in hand-to-hand combat, ordering all other units to not interfere. After Rogers defeats him, the Colonel rescinds his order, having his soldiers hold Rogers down while Al-Rahman prepares to decapitate him. However, the Hulk throws Captain America's shield with enough strength to slice off the Colonel's hands, giving Captain America enough time to break free and knock the Colonel into a nearby fountain. Captain America then impales Abdul with his own weapon.
[edit] Weaponry/Gadgets
He has been shown carrying a weapon resembling the double-bladed lightsaber used by Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Hawkeye even remarks "Darth Maul wants his lightsaber back, mother******!" in Ultimates 2 #12. The weapon however was broken by Captain America, showing it to be solid, and he later showed that it could cut quickly through multiple enemies in one stroke. The Colonel also carries a video camera to record the humiliations of America and the downfall of the Ultimates.
